Hi, I'm Sam,
It is normal for every Christian to have a base scripture; although the passages change with inspiration from the Holy Spirit during different seasons of your life; it is not compulsory but I do think it is very necessary. Your base scripture is how your Christian journey is shaped and helps you make decisions and know how best to interact with God especially, then with your interaction with people, whether someone of similar faith or not.
For me, my base scripture is Psalm 24:1 which says "The earth is the Lord's and the fullness of it. The World, and those who dwell in it" Amp Version.
With a surface view, you can already tell why it
is my favorite and base Bible Scripture. It is so direct and no matter what translation you decide to read it from, it still has a direct point and
meaning.
We go through life each day meeting random and new
people, some of those random new people sometimes get to become the closest
people in our lives and some close people at some point and chapter of our
lives become strangers and some positions never get to change very much. Why
this verse is so important to me is because it teaches me in a very profound and
distinct way where to place God in my life and then the best way to treat and
interact with people irrespective of who they are and what level of life they
occupy.
It is very easy to go through life not regarding
anyone except those who contribute to your life which is not necessarily a bad
thing because of course we are human with blood running through our veins and we are
bound to react to our environment the best way we can at a certain time but the
real you is who you are to people who do not have anything to offer you or
people who do not make any contribution to your life. I am a firm believer that
we owe everyone we come across sincerity and kindness; when you are kind and
sincere to people, you end up making an impact in their lives without trying. Just like babies, we learn from what we see people do. I mean we don't
exactly love people because they tell us they love us but from the way they
treat us we can always tell how someone feels towards us.
When I go through life when the unwavering realization
that everyone I meet, and everything I work for or interact with belongs to God, it
makes me treat everyone and everything with respect. For instance, when my
father or mother hands me their phone, knowing that the phone belongs to my
parent whom I love and adore, I would do everything in my power to handle the
device with utmost care. Bearing in mind that the person in an unfortunate
position is a child of God (not necessarily a Christian in this context) will
make me treat them with dignity and respect because you want to handle everyone
and everything that belongs to God with the utmost regard you would also give
to God.
Another perspective to look at my base verse would be
from the success angle. If truly everything in this world belongs to God and
even people in the world, if I truly love and Obey God through steady
communication with him, ultimately I can get anything I want if I ask from he
who owns everything on earth. For instance, a child of a wealthy man with a
loving and understanding relationship with their child would never deny his
child anything he knows his money can buy or his connection can get him.
Remember you cannot draw from a relationship you do
not water and nourish. Just like you can't ask a stranger for a kidney or
school tuition, that will also apply in this case; it would be very strange and
off-putting to ask from a God you do not know or obey. And just like any
relationship on earth, you have to be intentional with the desire to make the
relationship work; you cannot go into a relationship one leg in and the other
out and expect the best from it.
