Hi, I’m
Sam,
Where memories blend into soft edges, and time slows down just long enough for me to marinate myself in the moments that once meant so much to me and ultimately framed me. It’s a period where the past becomes more vivid than the present, and I can give a lot to spend as much time as possible there, in a place that seems to feel very familiar and so peaceful. In this place, everything feels just right as if nothing truly fades, and I find comfort in the echoes of what once was.
My favorite thing to do is sitting alone, listening to
music playing in my ear, the bass almost vibrating my brain, and then taking
myself back to past moments. My trip down memory lane can be just memories or a
blend of memories and daydreaming to make it even more interesting.
Another favorite thing
I love to do is scrolling through my gallery to relive moments. There is a very
indescribable feeling you get when you start scrolling from the present to days
ago, months, and ultimately years. You find out that there is growth in
different areas of your life. The growth can be physical, fashion-wise, people
around you, locations you visit, and even the kind of memes you screenshot. I
am known to be a bit of a memory hoarder because I try not to let things go.
Recently, I've tried to narrow down what things to keep saved and to delete but
I always try to convince myself that I somehow still need the picture of the
lunch my co-worker turned best friend sent to me a year ago. I stopped deleting
pictures after I realized that they weren't just pictures or videos but
memories. I might not have any use for some pictures and videos on my phone or
laptop but the minute I decide to delete any of them, somehow, the next day I have
a very important need for them, since then I only aspire to increase my memory
space than delete anything.
Considering that I always merge trips down memory lane with
daydreaming, I've learned to use it to pass the time. I may seem calm and
collected sitting on my own but my mind is working overtime trying to merge
memories, plans, and dreams to entertain me while I'm waiting for something or
simply just trying to pass the time without being on my phone. One thing I will
forever take seriously is memories because that is one of the many ways I can
stay grateful. My longing to spend as much time as possible in Nostalgia raises
a sense of reflection. I smile when I see where I was and where I am, things
that were very important to me in the past and things I hold dear in the
present. I remember so that I can be grateful for the past and proud of the
present.
Before Nostalgia can
be your favorite place, you have to intentionally and actively make memories to
look back on, and try your best to capture moments in any form you find easy
and comfortable, no one has ever felt bad looking back on memories, you may get
emotional but never from a place of regret. Where one memory stops another
continues at some point. Memories and music are intertwined in my case, I can
always connect different songs to different points in time in my life and it
has even graduated to smells. Some moments can come to mind just from a whiff
of a particular scent and I find myself grinning from ear to ear because of
what that particular memory means to me.
You never regret what you do but what you didn't do and nostalgic
living will always remind you that you're growing, you're getting better and
stronger, the challenges that seemed crippling at the time only made you
stronger to stand and look back, to learn and keep moving. No matter what you
do in life, always capture memories.
