Hi, I'm Sam,
Nothing is truly the end of something, where one thing stops, another begins and who doesn't love a new beginning. Yes, new beginnings can be nerve racking, the uncertainty making your heart beat so loudly that you wonder if the carefree teenager sitting next to you on the plane can hear it and ask you what's wrong and you try to act all cool like nothing is wrong and truthfully there's nothing wrong but something in you is trying to scare and convince you into thinking that something might be wrong. You've done everything humanly possible to analyze the end of something to better prepare yourself for what is to come, trying to ease yourself into the new normal but as a human, you can only prepare to an extent but whatever that will happen will definitely happen and this end might be premeditated or simply coincidental, but the scary thing is that there is always more and the good thing too is that there is always something more.
In so many cases, you have to always prepare for what is to come but it is also important to prepare for what you don't know will come. In a palatable situation, we prepare for the end of things and also prepare for the next thing for when we know what the next thing will be. I find it interesting when we spend so much time and effort to prepare for what is coming next, not knowing that it isn't really what is next for us but what will lead to the next major thing. What we consider next might simply be a really small step that will lead to the actual next thing that we never imagined in our wildest imagination. In my case, what I thought was my next thing was a slap on the face to make me realize that which has been staring at me for the longest time.
The mentality that there's always more is interesting. You begin to see things differently, you begin to see every opportunity as a chance to learn or to achieve more. The mentality that there's always more completely takes away the victim mentality a lot people have. I don't know if this happens to anyone else, whenever my dad gets a new car or someone close to me gets a new car, especially when the car is not a common type in the area or color, I find out that I easily notice that particular car and color more than I did before the new car came around me. I find it very easy to spot the same car, make and color because that is the type and color around me.
Get into the company of runners, you will easily become whatever surrounds you which is why when someone from a bad neighborhood makes it out, it is celebrated because that is not the norm, surroundings affect us more than we would like and when the surrounding is bad, you become intentional and make it a point to survive that environment. I know you've heard this before, everything you desire can only happen when you are able to conquer your fears. The end no matter how much we don't want it will always come; it could be the end of a job, school, a particular career but the thing is that it will come. And the end comes when we are too comfortable where we are, not doing well at a point or we just want more. You will either plan for the end or it will come impromptu. Admit that you're not there yet, no one can know everything or do everything. There is strength and intelligence in admitting your level while aspiring to go above your current level. Knowing that you still have things to learn or goals to achieve should make you feel nothing but excitement, especially when you approach life with the right attitude. Everything is a journey and one unique thing about journies is that it will always come to an end, you just have to keeping going and just try to have fun on the journey.
We're not living life on a manual but by our heart and experiences, what worked for someone else may or may not work for me and that can be a good thing or a bad thing. Running is deliberate, walking is normal, our default mode is to walk, no one ever said "I started running by mistake", before you start running it has to be intentional and you have to take the right form if not you will end up stumbling. In our daily pursuit we have to thrive of that duality - walking and running, walking signifying being and running signifying becoming. No one runs without a target in mind, you're either running away from something or running towards something but it is intentional. To walk is to move with life; to run is to chase something greater. Both states have something tangible, but it's the deliberate act of running — of striving — that shapes who we are and determines what the future will look like.
