MARCH BUSINESS CHAT with JENNIFER IBUCHIM IHUNDA

"Beauty is conceived, which brings out the aesthetic or experience of art and beauty is a primary bridge, to me it signifies the real representation of anything that anyone holds to be beautiful"  - Jennifer, founder of Jenny's Beauty Lounge

How are you doing lately and hope you had a good day?

I’m doing well, I had a good and stressful day but we thank God

Can you tell me a little about your background and what exactly about your background that inspired you to start a business?

While growing up I’ve always loved anything that concerns beauty and I love to try new things as long as there’s money in it, most times I literally sleep on people’s pages or YouTube channels trying to see how it goes and then after trying other businesses and moving to a new town which I'm not used to, I studied the environment and got to find out that the people here love anything that brings out their beauty which took me back to my first love which is beauty (makeup) but instead of that I wanted something different so I got into Lash Extensions and Micro-blading.

How long have you been doing it as a business and what has kept you going in it?

I just started lash extensions and micro-blading this year, learnt in January and just started it as a business in February although getting clients here isn’t easy because I don’t have much contacts here but what keeps me going is my zeal to do more and my love for the skill so I have to keep pushing till I get there, even though this isn’t the first business I’ve been into.

What other businesses have you had in the past?

I’ve sold hairs, all kinds of male and female foot wears, perfume oils, handbags, at some point I started making parfait, chicken salads, smoothies, plantain frittata etc.

Do you see yourself going back to any of the businesses you've done in the past in addition to your current business?

Yea sure, even till date I still cook for people most times if it’s needed …I loved all the businesses I ventured into but trust me to always try new things

How well do you think make up in Nigeria has evolved over the years?

Makeup is something that would never die down in Nigeria and new methods keeps coming which makes Nigerians try to upgrade their skills so as to please their clients, so we can say makeup has evolved greatly in Nigeria and would keep growing because more people are going into that line of business everyday

There’s always an occasion or ceremony for someone to want to apply makeup even the younger generation now find makeup interesting too so it keeps growing day by day

What is your beauty philosophy?

Beauty is conceived, which brings out the aesthetic or experience of art and beauty is a primary bridge, to me it signifies the real representation of anything that anyone holds to be beautiful

What are your 3 favorite make up brands?

Classic, Zaron and Kylie Cosmetics

What is beauty to you?

Confidence and combination of qualities

What facial features do notice easily in ladies and in men?

How well-groomed and shaved then men’s beards are and their smiles, for ladies, her eyes, smiles, perky cheeks and nose lol

What are your beauty dos and don't?

I don’t think I do have any though, proper care of the skin especially face helps keeps it more attractive

What is the best way to advice someone to pay more attention to their skin?

To me I feel everyone has what works for them and not everyone listens to advice on how to take care of their skin, most people like me get too lazy sometimes when it comes to skincare routine but in all just stay hydrated at all times

Who's your favorite beauty influencer?

I really don’t have any favorite at the moment. I think I have just 1 person who inspired me with just her work to learn micro-blading and go into it her name is Ellaessential.

GREEN SUNSET (Aurora Borealis Green)

Hi, I'm Sam,  Some may argue that the expectation of something makes the emotions less intense, which is probably the reason why so many people will admit that they love surprises, because they have no other choice but to react in the most genuine way possible for them. It is a fact and I know that the sun sets every single day in my region, at this point it is something I expect to happen but I don't look out for it, I only take note when it delays or probably doesn't happen which I have never experienced. Because I expect it to happen, I'm no longer fascinated by it. One of the hills I will gladly die on is that, there's no right or wrong way to grieve. There's no manual to it, you only react to the exact way you feel and depending on your emotional strength, you can suppress some emotions and control your actions. In several cases, no one plans for death, so all you have to do is react to it. You don't get to pick when and who it happens to, so you'r...

THE NEW KID

Hi, I'm Sam,   One thing I will argue anytime and any day is that the more you do something, the better you get at it whether intentionally or not. Being present willingly or not and participating in doing something will make you better at that thing in no time that it almost becomes part of your muscle memory. When you've spent most of your formative childhood years moving yearly from one place to another, you won't have any other choice than being good at being the NEW KID and you will get so good at adapting to new environments that the anxiety you once had at being in a new environment and trying to make something out of it becomes anxious of you. I had to equip myself with some tricks that made me less upset about moving from one place when I was just starting to get the rhythm of the place. At the beginning,  adapting to a new environment, finding new routines and creating new normals was so daunting that whenever I find out that we have to move, i don...

SAME PATH

Hi, I'm Sam ,  Its beginning to hit me that I will no longer be counted as part of the young ones in any gathering I find myself in lately  because I have gone up in age and this realization is making me question so many things I stood by growing up which I never thought would change and because I've never said those things out loud to the hearing of someone older than I am or even my mate, I've not received any advice with regards to them. The most common advice I get on a regular is that change is constant and I shouldn't be afraid to adapt to the changes. Change is quite easy to adapt to if it is somehow going the way you've planned it to be. You can just conclude that the change which you can see is just a manifestation of your desires and hard work. It can be hard to learn to accept changes even when it doesn't seem like its contained in my plans for growth, I've come to understand that things will always work out for my good even when I can...
